“I wanted to give back to my community by creating a beauty barbering school. I will be able to teach students of Ward 8 = as well as internationally. Creating future entrepreneurs is my way of giving back,” said Wanda Henderson.
About Wanda’s on 7th
Owner Wanda Henderson is a native Washingtonian who has been working in the beauty business for more than 45 years. Henderson has graced the Shaw/Howard neighborhood with Wanda’s on 7th Hair Salon for more than 20 years. Prior to that, Mr. Robert Dean owned the location solely as a barbershop, for 40 years. In the 2017 Smithsonian feature article, Henderson shares how the shop already had quite a legacy that has served music legends including Duke Ellington and Nat King Cole.

Wanda Henderson known for her salon on 7th St NW, recently acquired approximately 2000 square feet of additional space in Ward 8 to open a cosmetology school in Anacostia. Her 1 million dollar investment into the community will offer licensing, skills training and career advancement opportunities for barbers and beauticians.
